LearnPress Vs WP Courseware 2024

by Adam Preiser updated Feb 23, 2024

LearnPress is a comprehensive WordPress LMS Plugin for WordPress. The core plugin is free and there are many free extensions and paid extensions available.

WP Courseware allows you to have online courses on your WordPress website. It’s a solution ideal for people that already have an e-commerce platform and a membership plugin and just want to add courses.

Current Pricing: $99 – $175

While I am not that enthusiastic about either of these 2, I would personally choose WP Courseware over LearnPress almost solely based off of the negative LearnPress reviews. A learning management system will be a core part of your website and you are going to want to choose a solid solution from a reputable company. My main issues with WP Courseware are that it requires you to have a separate e-commerce and membership solution in place. That is 3 different systems, 3 different learning curves, and 3 potential things and can go wrong, no thank you.

LearnPress Pros

  • Core Plugin Is Free
  • Drag / Drop Course Builder
  • Looks Great Out Of The Box

WP Courseware Pros

  • Drag / Drop Course Builder
  • Powerful Quiz Options
  • Drip Feed Lessons
  • Multiple Instructors

LearnPress Cons

There are many concerns I have with this plugin for using it in a serious environment. If you look at the reviews people have left, there are many red flags there.

Concerns with it breaking websites, not following proper coding standards, and limited to no support.

I do question their business model and if there will be enough revenue for them to continue developement.

WP Courseware Cons

If you want to sell your courses then WP Courseware will need to be integrated with an e-commerce system, which further adds complexity to your online course website. They do offer integrations with most e-commerce and membership platforms for selling courses, but I think it would be better if this was built in.

Also, when I used WP Courseware last, it did not protect course content, so it also required a membership plugin, which is another system you will need to learn, manage, and maintain.

  1. ……. i was reading this searching for add ons or extension just to get inspired and i noticed some mistakes. WP courseware does have an own selling system. It also protects content. What it not does is protect comments. There for it is good to protect your comments.php for not logged in people. If you sign in for there newsletter you always get a discount!

    1. Yea it appears that WPCourseware is trying to get back in the game and start developing their product again. I just prefer products with a solid business model behind them.
