Did you know that the Beaver Builder theme is not your only option if you are using Beaver Builder for your WordPress page builder?

Not only are there less expensive options, but these themes are also more feature-rich.

On this website, I am using the Astra Theme which I personally think is the best of the bunch.

Astra Theme

Astra is a free WordPress theme that is focused on speed. Optionally you can purchase the Pro version for $59 which adds some additional settings and options.

Key Astra Theme Features:

  • One Of The Fastest Themes In My Testing
  • Free Demo Sites
  • Flexable Mega Menu Feature
  • Custom Layouts & Page Header Options
  • WooCommerce Support
  • LearnDash Support

Astra Theme is a good choice for any WordPress web design project. I suppose the biggest question is if you even need to purchase a theme these days as page builders are doing all of the same things you would need a theme for. For example, Elementor has the free Hello theme that lets your page builder do all the work.

There are still some good reasons to purchase a pro theme, but for most people, they most likely will be fine with a free theme.

GeneratePress is a lightweight theme that can be extended with a premium pack of extensions. It will work with all page builders and has the most extensive documentation of any theme.

Key GeneratePress Features:

  • Page Builder Compatibility
  • Many Customizer Options
  • Best Support Of Any Theme
  • Extensive Documentation
  • WooCommerce Integration
  • Flexable Header Options

GeneratePress is a rock solid choice for you to build your website on. Many highly experienced developers use GeneratePress for all of their projects. Pair that with the amazing support that Tom delivers and you have the perfect theme for just about any website project.

OceanWP is a WordPress theme with innovative features and is the most generous free theme I have ever seen. There is a suite of extensions that can be purchased which will extend the theme even further.

Key OceanWP Features:

  • Fully Responsive
  • eCommerce Ready
  • Fully Customizable
  • Advanced Mega Menu
  • RTL Support
  • Free Templates

OceanWP is the most feature-packed free theme that is available.

For a theme that work with any page builder, it has some innovative features that I have never seen in a theme. Primarily it's strength is with e-commerce websites and has all the feature that you would normally expect to pay for.

If you are new to WordPress, the customizer options and the option boxes found in each post/page can be overwhelming and hard to make sense of at times.

  1. Hi Adam, are there any new themes that you can now add to this list as an update to this article? Thank you for your awesome content!

    1. Surprisingly it’s pretty much remained the same. These themes just keep getting better. And it’s been hard for competition to get any traction, so they die out.

    1. Hey Mark, this decision is completely up to you, but personally I think that GeneratePress is the better value. It also has more features and more options, and many developers are making the choice of using GeneratePress over the Beaver Builder theme. This week I am going to release a full review video of GeneratePress premium, I suggest you check out that video because it’s going to show you the true potential of GeneratePress.

  2. Fantastic video, thank you! I would appreciate a little more info on what features of GeneratePress can be turned off due to duplication with Beaver Builder features/modules. For instance, do I really need the BLOG feature of GeneratePress turned on? A list of those that can be turned off safely wold be great. Thanks much. I am really going to make this my go to combo for client sites. Thanks, Dave

    1. While you first need to understand the difference between a theme and a page builder. There is nothing in Beaver Builder that is going to help you build a blog index page. This is something that is done in the theme, not the page builder. So there really isn’t any duplication of features that are in Beaver Builder and the GeneratePress theme.

  3. having issues with background images no appearing in this theme…
Wondering if it is just me – With issue – I can do little but without issue, i can see how fast and easy it is to create pixel perfect sites with this combo –

What css editor plugin are you using? Is that part of premium?

    1. Are you still having the problem? Who is your Webhost? Some webhosts force cashing on you and you would need to disable this while developing your site in order to see the changes that you’re making.

  4. Thanks Adam for this video on GP. I’ve had a couple of challenges using Beaver Builder PRO with other themes (primarily the full page width issue) and so I’m happy to see one that will work smoothly. Just a note to everyone though…make sure you do not activate (or at least deactivate) any CACHING plugins while building the site. Lesson learned!

  5. Thanks a lot for this info. I bought Beaver Builder but hadn’t found a theme that works with it for what I wanted to do. It looks like GeneratePress will be great. I’m probably going to invest in the package to have the most flexibility. I’m going to now go check out your other stuff. Keep up the good work! 🙂
