WPfomify is a WordPress plugin that claims to increase website conversions using “fear of missing out” pop-ups that give visitors the impression of a “busy store”.

WPfomify Cons

Until any of these WPfomify style plugins & services give concrete data that sales or conversion do increase, I am just not convinced that they will do anything but be a serious turn off for website visitors.

I have asked several professional marketers and they have all confirmed a decrease in sales of over 20% when testing WPfomify style pop-ups on their websites.

Also, I think the more people see these, the more they will be viewed as an annoyance.

Now regarding the actual plugin, in my testing, I have noticed that it can have the opposite impression. Essentially you are making sales information public, which unless you have impressive sales, it can have the opposite effect.

This doesn’t even begin to cover potential GDPR issues.

You most likely have seen some of the FOMO services on the various websites you visit.

For me the first time I saw one of these FOMO popups, I thought “Wow, that's really cool”!

Nowadays when I see them I think, “Wow, that's really scary”!

What does FOMO stand for?

So what the heck is FOMO anyway. Well, it stands for fear of missing out.

The thought process is this, if someone visits my sites, and sees that other people visit my site, then they will be more likely to buy.

Personally, that doesn't make much sense to me. Am I really more likely to opt-in, or place an order, or enroll in a class, or make a donation if I see other people doing it?

FOMO Is Interruption Marketing, Does It Work?

For me, I don't think so. But that's for you to judge.

WPfomify Review: Wrap Up

WPfomify’s way of implementing “fear of missing out” on WordPress based websites has no concrete proof that they will do anything but hurt sales & conversions. These style of popups are more of a fad.

If you really want to implement WPfomify pop-ups on your website, I would recommend having an A/B split testing solution in place because that is the only way to know if it is increasing or decreasing your sales.

Also ask around in some of the marketing centric Facebook groups to hear other people results. I think you will be surprised to hear that they decrease sales.

Last thing, make sure you are using it in a GDPR compliant manner.
