Being one of the oldest, or first, WordPress membership plugin could be good, but the problem is that it hasn’t really evolved that much and is really showing it’s age.
For some types of plugins, it doesn’t really matter, but if you are wanting to create a membership website, then it’s crucial that you use a modern plugin with a serious business behind it. Sadly, S2Member is just not a serious tool that I would be willing to base my business off of.

S2Member offers a great value for a free membership plugin, so if you are on a very tight budget it may be a good option. If you are going to pay for a WordPress membership plugin, I would not suggest using S2Member.

I wouldn’t use S2Member for anything.
Just as an added information, s2Member was barely supported and nobody worked on its development for the last 18 months or so. The situation has changed in January 2019 when one of the original developers took over where the last ones left. They are currently working on an upgrade, so you might want to keep an eye on this plugin in the next months.

Ha, yea there are some bugs here on my site due to it’s age. I have been working on relaunching the website. A great alternative is MemberPress.
Any suggestions on which plugin you prefer when it comes to content dripping for paid subscribers? I have S2member but after searching for hours it seems Paid Member Subscriptions pro is one of the best options in overall functionality. I also saw Restict content pro, IThemes Exchange, memberpress, member mouse, and cart66cloud. All very confusing to me at this point and very convoluted as to which is the best/easiest to use.
There are lots of great options, all with different price points. If free is what you are after, go with Paid Memberships Pro. If paid I would go with Restrict Content Pro.
