QuestionsAre you allowed to share GPL software
Hernán Pontillo asked 2 years ago

When you shared with us a GPL plugin or theme (as Genesis, WP-Rocket, etc) in your courses, we could legally use this on our websites and commercial projects, or is just for testing it locally?

Thanks

So most plugins and themes for WordPress are GPL licensed. This means that you can share, redistribute, and even resell them.

When you buy a plugin or theme you are really purchasing auto updates and support. In fact, many paid plugins are freely available for download on Github.

This all kinda stinks for developers because they don't own anything proprietary.

Yes, you can! Now keep in mind that at a certain point it is a good idea to support the developer. Also at a certain point, it becomes inconvenient to manually update.

Thanks Adam!

So I could download Elementor Pro, WPRocket, etc, from other sites and use it legally in as many sites as I need? Even commercially?

Hi. GPL licence gives you permission to share a plugin you have bought and change the source code as you like. So you can use it on your live site with no worries

Also! IF YOU EDIT The source code YOU MUST Make the Source code Open sourced.

Well Elementor Pro is an exception as it isn't GPL. See this topic:
